Frequently Asked Questions

Read this before you ask...

8hspace.gif (810 bytes)I get a substantial volume of mail from this site, and almost more questions than I can handle. That's okay, I don't mind helping if I can. However, there are a few questions that pop up at least once a day. I've decided to post the answers here to save time.

1. Where is the Protect-O-Plate located?
8hspace.gif (810 bytes)The Protect-O-Plate was included with the warranty book and was not attached to the car. If it's not in the warranty book, it's gone forever.

2. Will you decode my trim tag/protect-o-plate/vin/some-other-code for me?
8hspace.gif (810 bytes)
Nope. I created this site to allow you to do this yourself because I was overwhelmed with these requests. After I created the site the number of requests skyrocketed. This site gets over 1,000 hits a week and I get at least 4 or 5 good questions a day and I just don't have the time to answer questions that can be easily answered on this site. If you've tried to decode your numbers and you still have a question, then go ahead and ask and I'll try to help.

3. Tell me where to buy a Camaro.
8hspace.gif (810 bytes)I'm not a car dealer and I don't have a supply of Camaros stashed away. My standard answer is to check your local newspaper - that's the easiest place because the car will be local and you can check it out. The best national source is the classified section of the US Camaro Club magazine. They list a good variety and the prices are usually very reasonable. You can also check Hemmings Motor News, but the prices in there are on the high side.

4. Do you guarantee your info is correct?
8hspace.gif (810 bytes)Nope. I do my best and I'm reasonably certain that 99% of the info is accurate, but typos do creep into the site here and there. If you notice an ommission or error please let me know so I can verify or correct it. If you are trying to make a decision on buying a car and using the info from this site to verify it please don't hesitate to ask me if anything seems unclear. I cringe when I get email like the following actual message:

I was looking at buying a 68 SS Camero (sic) but I didn't know if it was real. Thanks to your sight (sic) i know it is because it's got the hood just like in your picture so I bought it. Thanks!

5. Do you know everything?
8hspace.gif (810 bytes)Nope, I don't claim to. I do, however, have access to a large store of information and the purpose of this site is to help share that info with other Camaro enthusiasts. If you see something incorrect or missing, please ask instead of flaming me. If I'm wrong I will correct the info, but I love to be proven right, especially when I get an unusually stupid flame like the following actual email:

your (sic) so smart you think you know everything. well i got a intake on my camaro and you dont list it. youll probly (sic) say its not original but i got this car from my uncle and he bought it new so i know its the right one. then youll probly (sic) say i got the number wrong but i dont. so mister know it all what about it my intake number is 18436572.

8hspace.gif (810 bytes)I don't doubt that that number is printed on this guys intake. In fact, it's printed on a lot of Chevy intakes. Of course, most of us can recognize the firing order when we see it...  ;-}
